6. MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS
Alhumdulillah, we at the end of yet another financial year of the Muslim Prison Board KZN.
It is with gratitude we pen this report firstly to Allah the Almighty, to the volunteers and
management of the MPB-KZN and the donors who provided financial assistance so
generously over the recent years. May all of you remain under the shelter, protection and
guidance of the Almighty Allah.
The Board of Governors wishes to take this opportunity, in particular, to thank the Head and
Ameer, Moulana Shabbeer Asmal, and his team for their unwavering commitment to the
cause of providing spiritual guidance to the more than 1,300 brothers and sisters who have
been incarcerated across KwaZulu-Natal. Our prayers are for their rehabilitation and spiritual
upliftment to enable them to return to their families cleansed and fully rehabilitated to
integrate seamlessly into their societies.
The role of the MPB-KZN cannot be emphasised enough and your support, financially and
otherwise, remains at the cornerstone of the organisation. We have witnessed, first hand
during the Eid-ul-Adha programme in July 2023, the impact on the lives of certain inmates
the MPB-KZN has had. The experience during this visit by all has certainly left an indelible
mark on our hearts and provides us with the motivation to continue our involvement in the
organisation. Our brothers and sisters rely heavily on the regular visits of the spiritual
providers as it provides them with the solace and comfort in very difficult circumstances.
To the donors, we ask you to continue supporting the various initiatives of the MPB-KZN as
we are solely reliant on you and your continued support remains crucial for the success of
the MPB-KZN.
To our volunteers, we would like to specifically acknowledge your selfless commitment to
the rehabilitation process. It is only through your hard work and dedication that we are able
to achieve the objectives of the MPB-KZN. We pray that Allah protects you, guides you,
grants you the ability and patience to continue this great service to His Deen and Humanity
at large.
The role of the Department of Correctional Services, both at provincial and national levels,
is noteworthy and appreciated.
We request everyone to remember all those involved in the activities of the MPB-KZN in
your regular prayers, as we do.
On behalf of the Board of Governors
I am perhaps, the best placed to
applaud the work you do. Your
persistent and relentless campaign
for greater access to and better
rights for our unfortunate brethren
and sisters in the correctional
system has achieved a fair measure
of success.
