13. Parolee Success Story

                 1.1. Moulana Saeed Ncane

My name is Thulani Mondli Ncane commonly known as Sheikh Saeed. This is a brief
summary of my life, from a criminal background, 15 years sentence in Prison, Accepting
Islam in Prison, changing my life, my release from prison, spending years studying and
becoming an Islamic Scholar, my involvement in community building and humanitarian
relief work, becoming a Councillor and a Deputy Mayor in my community and
municipality of Harding, resigning from the municipality, going for Hajj to the Holy Land
and becoming a leader of the Sun Party, with an aim to introduce god consciousness
into the political space of our country as a legacy for future generations and an
              investment for the afterlife.

I grew up at Umlazi location at A Section. I grew up in a church and both my Parents
              were caretakers of the church.

As a result, my peers in the neighbourhood used to ridicule and bully me and my
brother’s because we were church boys. This led me to join gangs and criminals so that
I can be feared in the neighbourhood.

Joining gangs led me to different crimes, and I left school and became a full-time
criminal, in and out of jail. Which led to my 15 years imprisonment.

Thanx God Almighty, Prisons have now been transformed into Correctional Facilities. I
managed to do some Studies in prison and refocused my life towards Transformation.

Through the efforts of the Muslim Prison Board, I accepted Islam and regained Focus
and Confidence and Purpose in my life.

After my release I consulted with the Religious Leaders of the Muslim Prison Board and
I enrolled for Islamic Theological Studies and I attained a Masters in Islamic
Jurisprudence, Islamic Banking and other related Courses.

I decided to go to Harding so that I can be able to change my life completely because
Durban was calling me back to criminal life. In Harding, God Almighty used me to
establish 3 Islamic Centers and a Preschool which have been operating for over the
past 10 years since my release. Over 700 students are attending our programs daily
after school and during weekends. This would not have been possible without the
assistance of Islamic Relief and Humanitarian Relief Organizations like Gift of the
Givers, Al Imdaad Foundation, Daarul Ihsaan, SANZAF, Ashraful Aid, One humanity
Foundation, Awqaf SA, and many other Muslim Charitable organizations.

During the 2021 Local Government Elections, my community requested me to lead them
politically and voted for me to become a ward Councillor and I also became a Deputy
Mayor in our Municipality of Harding.

I later resigned from the municipality as a result of corruption and many differences I
had with my then political party. I later on decided to revive an Old Political Party called
the Sun Party, with an aim for introducing God conscious politics in the political space
of our country, as a legacy for us and coming generations.

This year I was fortunate to go to Saudi Arabia and spent two months in the Holy Land
fulfilling the fifth Pillar of Islam called the Hajj or Pilgrimage.

I'm currently involved in politics, community relief work, teaching and leading prayers in
my community. I'm also a Member of the KZN Provincial Structure of the Interfaith
Religious Leaders. I'm representing the Islamic Faith.
